Juneau Animal Rescue is seeking a full-time Animal Control and Protection Officer to join our team.
This position provides assistance, protection, and advocacy for animals in need while enforcing local laws and ordinances related to animal care, health, licensing, impoundment, and public safety.
Primary Duties
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Conducting investigations and inspections involving animal cruelty, neglect, and ordinance violations.
• Issuing warnings and citations and providing testimony in court regarding minor offenses and animal cruelty cases.
• Educating members of the public about local animal regulations, responsible pet ownership, and humane animal care.
• Routinely patrolling designated areas to enforce local animal laws and ordinances.
• Safely and humanely rescuing stray, injured, aggressive, and nuisance domestic animals.
• Administering emergency first aid to injured animals while seeking vet care.
• Helping resolve disputes involving animals and members of the public.
• Coordinating with police officers, court officials, veterinarians, shelter staff, and other community partners.
• Preparing detailed investigative reports that may be submitted as legal court documents.
• Participating in an after-hours on-call rotation and responding to animal-related emergencies as assigned.
This position requires strong communication skills, sound judgment, attention to detail, compassion for animals, and the ability to remain calm and professional in difficult or emotionally charged situations.
