Multnomah County Animal Services (MCAS) is hiring for Animal Technician 2’s in our Animal Health and Adoptions/Admissions Units at our shelter serving the Portland Metro area in Troutdale, OR.

We currently have four (4) open positions within our Animal Health unit. Our Animal Health team is dedicated to the day to day medical needs of the pets within our organization.

Additionally, we have one (1) full-time regular position in our Front of House Adoptions/Admissions unit, which focuses on enrichment and daily care of pets.

 

TO QUALIFY:

We will consider any combination of relevant work experience, volunteering, education, and transferable skills as qualifying unless an item or section is labeled required. Please be clear and specific about how your background is relevant.

 

  • Associate's degree or equivalent (In lieu of a degree, we will consider equivalent years of related experience)
  • One (1) year of experience working directly with companion animals in animal welfare, training, or other animal-related fields depending upon assignment 

License or Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire, a Euthanasia Technician certificate issued by the State of Oregon Possession 

Preferred Qualifications/Transferable Skills*: You do not need to have the following preferred qualifications/transferable skills to qualify. However, keep in mind we may consider some or all of the following when identifying the most qualified candidates. Please clearly explain on your application how you meet any of the following preferred qualifications/transferable skills.

  • Clinical experience in veterinary assisting
  • Veterinary Technician license in the past or from out of state
  • Any relevant experience in shelter medicine
  • Training or experience in low-stress animal handling skills, such as Fear Free or equivalent
  • Knowledge of animal behavior, breed identification, and basic animal health, including dog and cat anatomy and physiology
  • Demonstrated experience working with the public, especially diverse populations, including providing information, resources, and counseling to resolve animal behavior concerns
  • Demonstrated experience modeling inclusive behaviors and practices that create a sense of safety, trust, and belonging for co-workers and community members
