Location: Allegany County Animal Shelter – Cumberland, MD

The Allegany County Animal Shelter, a municipal no-kill shelter and animal control operation managed by the Allegany County Animal Shelter Management Foundation, is seeking an experienced and compassionate Shelter Manager to lead our day-to-day operations.

As Shelter Manager, you will oversee animal care and welfare, manage staff and volunteers, direct animal control operations, and ensure smooth facility operations. This role requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and a commitment to animal welfare, employee growth and satisfaction, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee daily shelter operations, including animal care, intake, adoptions, foster, and transfer programs.
• Supervise and support staff, volunteers, and Animal Control Officers.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal animal welfare regulations.
• Maintain accurate records and reporting for both shelter and animal control operations.
• Foster partnerships with the community, animal welfare organizations, and government agencies.
• Assist with budget management and identify opportunities for grants and fundraising.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in animal science, business administration, nonprofit management, or related field preferred (equivalent experience considered).
• 3–5 years of supervisory or management experience, preferably in animal welfare or shelter operations.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in shelter management software and Microsoft Office.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Position Details:

• Full-time, on-site position with a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Physical requirements include handling animals of all sizes and lifting or moving up to 50 pounds.
• Compensation commensurate with experience.
