About Us

The Saint Frances Animal Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1983. We are Georgetown County’s only open-admission shelter, taking in all abused, neglected, injured and abandoned dogs and cats.  We are dedicated to improving the lives of animals through rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption. We are an open-admission, high-save shelter operating a shelter and low cost spay / neuter and wellness clinic. Saint Frances Animal Center provides sheltering services for both the city and county of Georgetown and handles over 2500 cats and dogs every year through its sheltering program and low-cost, public veterinary clinic that ensures financial barriers never stand in the way of a family owning a pet and ensuring that pet is healthy and safe.

Georgetown is the county seat of Georgetown County, in the South Carolina Lowcountry. It is a charming coastal town that blends rich history, natural beauty, and a welcoming community. In 2020 the population was approximately 8,403. The Position

SFAC is seeking a passionate and experienced leader to serve as its next Executive Director. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in shelter operations, financial management, strategic planning, board collaboration, and staff development. They should also have experience growing a sustainable organization and be a strong advocate for fundraising.

The Executive Director will oversee SFAC’s administration, operations, programs, and funding while working closely with the Board. They must be able to present a clear vision, build consensus, and engage the community and donors. With an entrepreneurial mindset, they will drive programs that support the rescue, transport, training, and care of animals in SFAC’s protection.

Compensation

$90,000 to $110,000 annually, plus comprehensive benefits.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

  • Work closely with the Board of Directors to develop, implement, and regularly update strategic plans, along with goals and objectives, measurements, to evaluate and support the ongoing mission and direction of the organization.
  • Provide effective leadership to staff, volunteers, and partners, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment.
  • Recruitment, hiring, development, evaluation, and discharge of employees and volunteers as conditions dictate.
  • Oversight of all shelter operations relative to the treatment and care of animals admitted to the shelter, as well as adoptions and foster care initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain operational protocols that align with industry best practices.
  • Provide oversight of staff and volunteers to ensure smooth day-to-day operations, and provide guidance, as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain an appropriate volunteer base to support SFAC operations and fundraising activities.

Fundraising & Financial Management

  • Maintain financial oversight including annual budgets and financial reports.
  • Develop the annual budget for approval by the Board and ensure fiscal health of the organization.
  • Develop and manage a multi-faceted fundraising strategy that includes creative, as well as traditional, funding strategies, techniques, and approaches as well as provide training and developing a donor relations strategy for the Board.
  • Maintain liaison with the city of Georgetown and Georgetown County officials, and other community agencies. Coordinate the SFAC activities with City and State agencies; ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, licensures, and accreditation standards.

Community Engagement & Advocacy

  • Serve as the organization's public face and spokesperson for SFAC, promoting the mission to donors, media, and community stakeholders.
  • Community outreach, public relations and networking for brand recognition including civic organizations, media, professional entities, government organizations, etc.
  • Build positive relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders, including the nonprofit and business communities, government, and the media.
  • Advocate for SFAC, its mission, and programs to local and state elected officials and government entities.

Board Relations

  • Engage the Board in meaningful participation that will boost a culture of fundraising, support, and engagement
  • Preparation of monthly operating reports for the Board of Directors including fundraising and operational results and other reports and presentations required by the Board
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure robust governance practices, fostering transparency and accountability to advance the organization's mission.
  • Serve as a liaison between staff, volunteers, and the Board of Directors.

 

Qualifications

All candidates should have proven leadership, fundraising, and management experience as well as:

  • A least 5 years’ experience working in an animal rescue/shelter environment, and at least 3 years leadership and management experience, or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or commensurate fundraising and management experience.
  • CAWA credential is helpful but not mandatory.
  • Commitment to the mission, values, goals, and success of the St. Frances Animal Center.
  • Experience supervising employees, creating effective teams, and building a work culture reflective of the agency’s mission and goals. 
  • Solid experience working with and supporting a Board of directors, including Board development and governance
  • Strong fiscal management and planning ability.
  • Fundraising skills with proven success in the role of securing gifts, overseeing grantmaking, fundraising events, and donor campaigns.
