Option 1
Two (2) years of experience in the service of the County of Los Angeles as a Registered Veterinary Technician.
Option 2Three (3) years of experience as a Registered Veterinary Technician in a clinical setting and/or animal care related program.
Option 3One (1) year of experience as a full-time supervisor by providing administrative and technical* supervision to Registered Veterinary Technicians in an animal care setting.
Option 4Two (2) years of experience leading** other Registered Veterinary Technicians or veterinary assistants in a clinical setting and/or animal care related program.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:Experience working in an animal shelter as a Registered Veterinary Technician.
PHYSICAL CLASS:
3 - Moderate: Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighting over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.
LICENSE:
- A valid Registered Veterinary Technician Certificate issued by the California State Board of Examiners in Veterinary Medicine and
- A valid California Class C Driver's License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:* Administrative and technical supervision is defined as a position with the responsibility of the quantity and quality of work performed by lower level non-supervisory staff usually three (3) to ten (10) employees. Provides direct administrative and technical supervision to include planning, assigning, and reviewing work of staff, evaluating employee performance, approving leaves of absence, counseling, and recommending discipline. Position does not regularly engage in the same work as subordinates more than 40 percent of the time.
** Leading is defined as a position that acts as team or group leader to at least two (2) or more journey or lower level employees with responsibility for assigning, coordinating, and reviewing the work, ensuring proper work methods are followed, and providing technical assistance and training. Positions spend no more than 50 percent of time performing similar duties as the positions that they lead.
