Position Information

Under general supervision, provides support services and assistance in the veterinary care for all animals under the care of the Washoe County Regional Animal Services (WCRAS); and performs other related duties as required.
 
This is an Open Competitive/Countywide Promotional recruitment being conducted to fill a current full-time vacancy in the Washoe County Regional Animal Services department. The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of full-time professional experience with animals in an established veterinary clinic, government, or nonprofit animal shelter; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.

 License Or Certificate

  • Possession of a valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment. 
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid certification as a euthanasia technician within one year of appointment.   
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid controlled substance certificate within one year of appointment.
 
The Ideal Candidate Will
 
  • Have a Veterinary Assistant Certification from an accredited program.
  • Have knowledge of animal handling, care and treatment from experience in a professional work environment.
  • Have knowledge of a variety of animal species, breeds, and related behaviors.
  • Have the ability to remain calm under pressure, adapt quickly to changing circumstances and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
  • Have the ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team and are willing to assist wherever needed.
  • Have outstanding written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrate commitment to public service, and value exceptional customer service.
  • Be Bilingual English and Spanish.
  • Have experience with high volume spay/neuter.
